Waitin’ on a Grammy is Rich Hall’s latest CD and the first ever to include studio recorded tracks along with the customary live music recordings normally associated with Rich - or his alter ego Otis Lee Crenshaw - and his various backing bands over the years, The Gadflys, The Black Liars and The Honky Tonk A**holes.
Rich has always included music both in his Otis Lee Crenshaw guise and frequently in his live stand up shows, and now he has recorded - both in the studio and live at the Soho Theatre - his latest full blown musical venture. Born from his 2011 Edinburgh Festival show Rich Hall’s Hoedown, The Hoedown Band have since performed with Rich at selected comedy clubs and festivals and two runs in London’s Soho Theatre. Rich Hall’s Hoedown started life as a drinkin’ dancin’ and comedy late night ninety minute spectacular with various random guests (including Phill Jupitus, Barry Cryer and Tony Law), an onstage bar and often an onstage audience; the show has since slimmed down to feature Rich, the band and a set full of Rich’s comedy songs. The latest of these are included on Waitin’ On A Grammy, along with some favourites never before available and of course Rich’s famous improvised musical odes to hapless members of the audience who are now immortalised in song, whether they wanted to be or not.
